Stopping Harm Before It Happens

At GPHI, we believe that prevention is protection. While we respond to the needs of children, families, and communities affected by abuse, poverty, and neglect, we are also committed to preventing these problems from happening in the first place.

Through a combination of education, early intervention, awareness campaigns, and community partnerships, our prevention services are designed to build a future where children grow up safe, healthy, and hopeful.

What We Do:

      • Child Protection Awareness: We conduct regular sensitization programs for children, caregivers, and community members to help them recognize, prevent, and report abuse and exploitation.

      • Community Empowerment: We strengthen families and communities with parenting workshops, youth life skills training, and household economic strengthening to reduce vulnerability.

      • School-based Programs: Our prevention strategy includes regular school visits to educate children and teachers on child rights, healthy relationships, bullying, and safety practices.

      • Risk Identification & Early Response: We train teachers, caregivers, and community volunteers to identify early signs of trauma, neglect, or abuse and refer children to timely support services.

      • Collaboration with Local Structures: GPHI works closely with Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs), traditional leaders, and religious institutions to enforce a community-wide commitment to child safeguarding.

    Why Prevention Matters:

        • It reduces trauma and long-term harm to children.

        • It saves lives, resources, and time.

        • It builds informed communities that care for their children.

        • It equips children with the confidence and tools to protect themselves.

      Our Success Stories:

          • Reduced cases of abuse and exploitation reported in communities where our prevention trainings were conducted.

          • Strengthened parental involvement in child safety and education.

          • Increased awareness on child protection laws and referral pathways among local stakeholders.

“We used to be unaware of what counted as child abuse. Thanks to GPHI’s trainings, we now understand how to protect our children and support others.” – Community Parent, Kano GPHI’s prevention services are built on the simple idea that every child should be safe not by chance, but by choice.

We are planting the seeds of safety, dignity, and respect in homes, schools, and communities before harm ever takes root.
